A study of UDP and TCP FPGA implementation for data acquisition system

Abstract: Two main protocol stacks for gigabit ethernet are currently widely adopted in the data acquisition system for high energy physics experiments. The first method is based on User Datagram Protocol (UDP), which transfer packets before an agreement is provided by the receiving party. However, the second method, called Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), establishes a connection through a process of the three-way handshake. We designed two FPGA projects, based on UDP and TCP respectively, on such a real applicatio… Show more

“…The system consists of the target FPGA, the host program on the PC, and the associated configuration and log files (figure 1). In the FPGA, the TCP/IP server module is designed according to the reference document [7]. In this design, the Fault injection command of the PC is received by the UART, the content of the specified memory bit in FPGA configuration memory is flipped by the SEM controller, and the fault injection is realized by the ICAP interface.…”

“…Due to the high reliability brought by the communication handshake mechanism, connectionoriented TCP/IP protocol is widely used in remote monitoring, system configuration and data transmission of front-end electronic systems [7]. In multistage electronic systems, the power control, configuration, fault detection, and recovery operations of leaf circuits are usually controlled remotely by the parent node.…”

“…e traditional image processing system based on software platforms has been di cult to meet the needs, so people put forward new requirements for the image processing system. Due to the natural parallelism of image processing algorithms, the addition of eld-programmable gate array (FPGA) hardware platforms has brought new vitality to image processing [1][2][3][4][5][6]. In addition, image segmentation is a very important image processing technology, especially in the medical eld.…”
