A study on estimation of 3-dimensional surface roughness of boring processes including kinematic motion deviations

Abstract: The surface roughness is one of the most important characteristics of machined parts. A systematic method is proposed in the paper to simulate the shape generation processes in the boring operations and to estimate the surface roughness of the generated faces, based on the machining parameters. The simulation model includes both the models of the shape generation motions considering kinematic motion deviations and the cutting tool geometries. The shape generation motions with deviations are mathematically desc… Show more

“…The start and end contact angles of the tool nose with the workpiece can be calculated by the equations that have been adapted from Ramaswami (2010). In triangles P int-1 P mid-1 C i and triangles P int+1 P mid+1 C i angles φ i-1 and φ i+1 are obtained based on the proposed method (Thasana, et al, 2014).…”

“…Wang et al (2006) studied the freedom analysis model from tolerance zone mapping to deviation space for several characteristics. Thasana et al (2014) provided a systematic method to estimate the geometric dimension and tolerance in the turning processes containing the kinematic motion deviations. Sandipan and Jhareswar (2012) provided a comprehensive method by reviewing dimensional tolerance synthesis.…”
