A study on researcher use behavior changes since Covid-19

Abstract: In December 2019, Covid-19 virus spread from Wuhan, China, to the rest of the world and had profound impact on politics, economy, society, and culture as well as significant effect on libraries and information utilization. This study aimed to propose future directions for library service by analyzing information use behavior of researchers and deriving the requirements through a survey method. As a result, it was initially identified that the data types and search paths used by researchers have changed to usin… Show more

“…The magazines (print and electronic) in this study became important because the digital era made paradigms in student life change a lot. Researchers saw how the latest electronic magazines became a reference for students to obtain needed information from a developing perspective (Noh, 2021). Digital developments need to be monitored so that future research methods can be more accurate and provide good integrity to the research.…”

“…Several recent studies investigated the changing nature of information behaviours and needs of academic researchers due to the COVID-19 pandemic (Baxter et al 2021;Decker 2021). One general and unsurprising finding is that researchers relied more heavily on digital library resources and services (Noh 2021). The shift of most non-clinical research to virtual modalities has had a profound impact on researchers across many disciplines, but especially research involving human participants or fieldwork (Gentili and Cristea 2020;Howlett 2021).…”

“…When the COVID-19 pandemic took hold of the world, governments around the world enforced a lockdown on all nonessential public institutions, including libraries (IFLA, 2020). Due to the inability to directly lend library material, some libraries shut down, some managed to provide contact-free deliveries and others enhanced their digital services, but overall, the number of library transactions severely decreased (Noh, 2022). Other prominent challenges for libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic were social distancing restrictions and the spread of misinformation (Sheikh et al ., 2021).…”
