A study on the role of powertrain system dynamics on vehicle driveability

Abstract: Vehicle driveability describes the complex interactions between the driver and the vehicle, mainly related to longitudinal vibrations. Today, a relevant part of the driveability process optimization is realized by means of track tests, which require a considerable effort due to the number of parameters (such as stiffness and damping components) affecting this behavior. The drawback of this approach is that it is carried on at a stage when a design iteration becomes very expensive in terms of time and cost. The… Show more

“…Critical components are transformed from rigid to flexible state (side shafts, gears), and elastomeric bearings are introduced. The objectives cover a wide frequency range and gather an indepth understanding of comfort-related events [20,34,56,67,69]. The latter complex models take strong interactions between all corresponding subsystems into account [34, p. 2].…”

“…In this study, we used powertrain components (induction motor, generator, and battery) to model the application of regenerative braking in EVs. Accuracy in powertrain component location will improve the vehicle's NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) behavior [6]. To provide the same torque, the induction motor rotated the driving wheel (DW) through the pulley in a one-to-one ratio.…”

“…However, a MoI-dr iven ICE start-up process faces challenges in drivability control. The objective criteria of drivability evaluation are related to start-up time, torque response, and torsion speed [11] [12], although some criteria may conflict with each other [13]. In particular, during deceleration, the MoI acting on a flameout engine may affect drivability [14] [15].…”
