“…The lowest two members of the Qishn Formation are the laterally equivalent "clastic member" and "lower carbonate member." All the members defined herein pass laterally into a clastic dominated section in Western Yemen (Holden and Kerr 1997). The upper member, with the proposed name "carbonate member," is, as its name suggests, a unit predominantly of limestones with subordinate dolomites.…”

“…The interior rifts of the western and central areas (Wadi Shiham ad Dhali Basin, Sab'atayn Basin, and Balhaf Basin) are oriented NW-SE, following the Najd trend of the Precambrian basement of the Arab-Jan peninsula (Beydoun 1991(Beydoun , 1997. The earliest syn-rift strata within the Sab'atayn Basin (or Marib AI Jawf or Shabwa Basin) are lower to middle Kimmeridgian age (Holden and Kerr 1997) with maximum subsidence occurring in the Kimmeridgian and Tithonian (Redfern and Jones 1995). To the east of the Sayun-al Masila Basin (Beydoun 1971) and Jiza'-Qamar (Brannan et al 1997) basins are oriented progressively more east-west (Bosence 1995) When the Socotran Platform is restored to its location prior to the Gulf or Aden spreading, the major structural elements have an east-west orientation while other lineaments parallel the ENE-WSW orientation of the Masila Basin (Birse et al 1997).…”
