A Superhigh Speed HTS Maglev Vehicle

Abstract: When the velocity of the normal ground traffic transportation is higher than 350 km/h of the speed limit, not only the running noise of the ground traffic vehicle is higher, but also the 90% driving power is dissipated in the aerodynamic resistance. The high speed may be realized when a high temperature superconducting (HTS) Maglev vehicle runs in low-pressure tube or evacuated tube transport (ETT). Its speed is over 3000 km/h. As a new ground transportation system the HTS Maglev vehicle is presented after the… Show more

“…Systems which use passive magnetic suspension, despite growing popularity, have not been used so far in professional and commercial technical solutions. However, there is a small number of academic research projects on the use of HTS in transportation systems, including SupraTrans (Schultz et al, 2005), Cobra Tram (Sotelo et al, 2011) and SuperMaglev (Wang et al, 2005). • the levitating cart is an axisymmetric solid body with six degrees of freedom;…”

“…On 12 January 2004, the project decision meeting of a super-high-speed ETT HTS Maglev train was held at SWJTU. Professor Jia-Su Wang reported on an ETT HTS Maglev train proposal which promised more than 600 km h −1 [60]. But, as yet, neither a real scale nor an experimental HTS Maglev vehicle system has been built operating in an ETT or low-pressure tube (LPT).…”

“…As one of the most impressive and promising applications of bulk high-temperature superconductors (HTSCs), hightemperature superconducting (HTS) Maglev vehicles [1] with outstanding advantages of high speed, comfort, environment friendliness, low maintenance and low energy consumption, have been proposed as an important choice for future transportation methods, especially for super-high speed evacuated tube transportation (ETT) [2]. In the past 25 years, this technology has greatly progressed from early models and demonstrators to present prototypes with long permanent magnet guideway (PMG) lines [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10].…”
