Sugar beet is hypothesized to have a narrowed genetic base due to its origin as White Silesian Beet and from numerous breeding selections and practices. High sugar quality, yield of recoverable sugar, cytoplasmic-male sterility system, monogermity, pests and disease resistance and bolting resistance constitute some of the adaptations that significantly influenced the existing genetic background of the crop. In this study we aimed to evaluate the extent of genetic diversity existing in wild beet representatives of Beta and Patellifolia and sugar beet cultivars, with a special focus on the complex Beta vulgaris. Another purpose was to determine the potential usefulness and conformity of selected molecular markers in different groups of materials in the context of rhizomania resistance. To reach these goals, molecular RAPD, ISSR techniques, literatureselected rhizomania resistance-segregating sequences as well as mitochondrial markers were used. The comparison of genetic diversity in wild and cultivated Beta forms shows that the population differentiation values and distance values are relatively high in cultivars. Moreover, the diversity component seemed to be compromised rather on the level of population (Hs) than in total (Ht) in cultivars. Our results shed a new light on the expected genetic bottlenecks existing in cultivars and revealed features specific for individual taxa (Patellifolia, Corollinae). Some degree of distinctiveness was suggested between genetic determinants of rhizomania resistance in modern cultivars in comparison with wild resistance sources. In addition, we document here an internal heterogeneity existing in selected wild/weedy accessions at the level of crucial sequences using high resolution melting.

ResumoLevantamentos florísticos de Asteraceae na Cadeia do Espinhaço têm confirmado uma significante riqueza de espécies e de endemismos dessa família para as vegetações campestres. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo realizar um inventário florístico de Asteraceae no município de Mucugê, Bahia, oferecendo subsídios para o reconhecimento da família na região. As coletas têm sido realizadas na região há pelo menos uma década e meia cobrindo grande parte da área do Município. Foram estudados também os materiais provenientes dos herbários ALCB, CEPEC, HRB, HUEFS, MBM, NYBG, RB, SP, SPF e UB. A família Asteraceae está representada em Mucugê por 18 tribos, 78 gêneros e 167 espécies. As tribos com maior número de espécies são Eupatorieae (49 spp.), Vernonieae (46 spp.), Astereae (18 spp.) e Heliantheae (11 spp.). Dos gêneros registrados, cinco são monoespecíficos (Pseudostifftia, Platypodanthera, Bahianthus, Conocliniopsis e Prolobus) e cinco são endêmicos da Bahia (Pseudostifftia, Stylotrichium, Lasiolaena e Semiria). Dentre os gêneros com maior riqueza, destacam-se Baccharis (17 spp.), Lychnophora (11 spp.), Mikania (10 spp.), Lepidaploa e Lessingianthus (7 spp.) cada. São apresentadas chaves de identificação para as tribos, gêneros e espécies, comentários taxonômicos e distribuição geográfica para cada táxon, além de ilustrações e fotos. AbstractFloristic surveys of the Asteraceae in the Espinhaço Range have showed a significant species richness and endemisms in this family for the grassland vegetation. Thus, this study aims to survey the floristic inventory of the Asteraceae in the municipality of Mucugê, Bahia, providing subsidies for an updated taxonomic recognition of the family in the region. Field collections have been conducted for at least a decade and a half covering much of the area. We also analyzed the material from the herbaria ALCB, CEPEC, HRB, HUEFS, MBM, NYBG, RB, SP, SPF and UB. Asteraceae is represented in Mucugê by 18 tribes, 78 genera and 167 species. The tribes with the greatest number of species are Eupatorieae (49 spp.), Vernonieae (46 spp.), Astereae (18 spp.) and Heliantheae (11 spp.). Gmophrena globosa (L) including in Amaranthaceae family is an important medicinal plant in our country, especially in hilly tribal people for their folk medicinal practices. The object of my study was to investigate the central and peripheral analgesic activity of the investigated plant based on the use of Gmophrena globosa extract for the wound healing to the tribal people in our country. After collection of whole plant it was first of all washed and then sun dried and made powder by grinding machine. The powder was extracted by methanol. Around 5gm of concentrated methanolic plant extract was partitioned by modified Kupchan partitioning protocol into n-hexane soluble fraction, carbon tetrachloride soluble fraction, chloroform soluble fraction and aqueous soluble fraction. All the fractions were subjected to the investigation of central and peripheral analgesic activity. Among all the fractions crude methanolic extract, nhexane soluble fraction and aqueous soluble fraction at a dose of 400mg/kg had shown significant analgesic activity. They produced an inhibition of writhing 74.6%, 71.4% and 74.5% respectively in comparable with positive control diclofenac. On the other hand central analgesic activity of the test samples were compared with Morphine. The crude methanolic extract and n-hexane soluble fraction have significant central analgesic activity at 400mg/kg dose. The central analgesic activity is highest after 30minutes. As the time progress the analgesic activity decreases. After 60minutes there is almost no central analgesic activity in the plant extracts.
