Fauchald (1977) recognizes six species.…”

Although important progress has been made dealing with benthic species, pelagic polychaetes are still poorly understood; for example, the synopsis by Dales & Peter (1972) includes some 80 valid species names with 44 restricted to a single ocean basin, but 36 have been recorded from two or three oceans. Støp-Bowitz (1984) identified some problems with diagnostic features for some pelagic species, but he did not analyze their distribution patterns, which might be difficult to explain, especially in pantropical species.…”
