A systematic review of volleyball spike kinematics: Implications for practice and research

Abstract: The volleyball spike represents one of the more sophisticated attack actions, and the study of its kinematics has been the aim of several studies. This systematic review summarized and critically appraised the literature on the volleyball spike kinematics. Studies that analysed the 3D kinematics of the volleyball player during spike movements were searched in the PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science and SPORTDiscus databases. Eighteen studies met the eligibility criteria and were assessed as high ( n = 7), good ( n … Show more

“…concussions) in women compared to men might be explained by the sex dependent differences in playing behaviour on the one hand and biomechanics on the other hand. The maximum ball speed during spiking is about 24.5 m/s for men and 17.9 m/s for women (for review see: [ 74 ]). Since the ball is equally heavy for both sexes, the impulse of the ball for women is about 73% of the impulse for men.…”

“…Since the concept of pose estimation was put forward, scholars at home and abroad have conducted a lot of research for this [6,7]. When estimating the human body pose, two main solutions are used, namely, the traditional image processing method and the method based on deep learning [8]. Although the traditional method has high time efficiency, it mainly extracts SHIFT features and HOG features, and these features are manually set, which will lead to different viewing angles, appearances, occlusions, and their inherent geometry in the image [9].…”

“…They act as prerequisites for their further improvement [18,36]. This can be fully ensured only with such an organization of physical training, taking into account the specific patterns of the organism development process of adaptation to this mode of muscular work [40]. It is necessary to approach the solution of improving the movements technique issues of a volleyball player taking into account the organic relationship of physical and technical sides of motor activity, individual characteristics of an athlete [41,42].…”
