A technology selection framework for integrating manufacturing within a supply chain

Abstract: International audienceThis paper describes a structured analytical approach for selecting a manufacturing technology. A framework consisting of six integrated steps is proposed by considering the growing importance of supply chains in manufacturing organisations. The framework makes use of Analytical Hierarchy (AHP) approach combined with Strategic Assessment Model (SAM) to evaluate and select the technologies appropriate for providing overall competitive advantage. The framework is intended to assist industri… Show more

“…To mitigate such problems, digitalisation of supply chain has been a critical development in the last couple of decades moving towards a knowledge-based economy where a shift from traditional manufacturing to an era of global, intelligent and sustainable manufacturing is observed (Bi 2011;Ranganathan, Teo, and Dhaliwal 2011;Long et al 2017;Michael 2017). The manufacturing companies are looking for innovative information technology support to improve their performance with effective supply chain collaboration and coordination (Farooq and O'Brien 2012).…”

“…To overcome these challenges and improve supply chain performance, industries have explored innovative technologies that support efficient collaboration and coordination within and among different organizations [2,3]. Among these technologies, blockchain provides a promising future and allows the supply chain to provide better visibility, transparency, and acuity of transactions throughout the entire process [4].…”

“…• Supply Chain Integration (SCI): Farooq and O'Brien (2012) report that, in realising global transformation and competitive business environments over the years, a number of manufacturing sector organisations have collaborated with their SC partners such as suppliers and customers in order to achieve seamless SC integration. In line with Cassivi's (2006) empirical research, the level of supply chain integration (internally) and virtual collaboration within the SC resulted in greater significance towards organisational performance.…”
