A Threshold-Based Dynamic TXOP Scheme for Intra-AC QoS Differentiation in IEEE 802.11e Networks

Abstract: The IEEE 802.11e Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) protocol has been proposed for provisioning of differentiated Quality-of-Service (QoS) between various Access Categories (ACs), i.e., inter-AC QoS, in Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). However, the EDCA lacks the support of the intra-AC QoS provisioning, which is indispensable in the practical WLANs since the network loads are always asymmetric between traffic flows of ACs with the same priority. To address the intra-AC QoS issue, this paper propo… Show more

“…Due to variations in traffic load, the TXOP limit mechanism needs to adapt dynamically. In [7][8][9], the authors represent a dynamic TXOP mechanism to adjust the duration of transmission time of mobile nodes based on the present status of their frames transmission queues. They also implement an analytical model to analyse the performance of the proposed scheme using self-similar traffic.…”

“…In specific instances, if the frame sizes of the traffic streams are 512, 1024, 1536, and 2048 Bytes, then the calculations for the first traffic stream necessitates determining the total size of the queue using Eq. (8). The total size of the queue is expressed in Eq.…”

“…Min et al [11] proposed a dynamic TXOP that is adjusted according to the condition of the stations' queues. In TBD-TXOP [11,12] method, TXOP will be equal to its default value as long as the queue length is less than the threshold. But if the queue length exceeds the threshold, TXOP will be increased.…”
