A Total Lagrangian ANCF Liquid Sloshing Approach for Multibody System Applications

Abstract: The objective of this investigation is to develop a total Lagrangian non-incremental liquid sloshing solution procedure based on the finite element (FE) absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF). The proposed liquid sloshing modeling approach can be used to avoid the difficulties of integrating most of fluid dynamics formulations, which are based on the Eulerian approach, with multibody system (MBS) dynamics formulations, which are based on a total Lagrangian approach. The proposed total Lagrangian FE fluid… Show more

“…However, due to the large rotation and small deformation characteristics of FFR method, the fluid should be divided into a large number of elements. On the basis of 3D solid element, 27 Wei et al 31 proposed a liquid model based on absolute nodal coordinate formulation and total Lagrangian formulation and also realized the unified modeling of MBS and liquid. The results show that a small number of ANCF element tends to perform better than large number of elements of the FFR formulation.…”

“…Different from the conventional ANCF element [1], the solid element of ALE-ANCF includes an additional term a F associated with h a in the dynamic equation (7). The term a F exists for the reason that there is a mass flowing in or out of the element.…”

“…The readers can refer to [3] and the references therein for a state-of-the-art review of the beam and plate/shell elements of the ANCF. In recent years, a few solid elements [2,[6][7][8] of ANCF have been developed for the modeling and topology optimization [1] of a three-dimensional (3D) FMBS, and for fluid dynamics [7].…”

“…Liquid sloshing refers to the phenomenon in which liquid with a free interface moves in a limited space [19] . Liquid sloshing was mainly studied by theoretical analysis [20,21] , experimental analysis [22,23] , computer simulation analysis [24,25] , etc. Such research has mainly focused on liquid sloshing in large pressure vessels, such as oil tankers [26,27] and spacecraft [28,29] .…”
