A world-wide key to the thelotremoid Graphidaceae, excluding the Ocellularia-Myriotrema-Stegobolus clade

Abstract: In the course of an ongoing systematic and taxonomic revision of the lichen family Graphidaceae (including Thelotremataceae), we present world-wide keys to the currently accepted thelotremoid genera and species, excluding the columellate taxa and their relatives of the Ocellularia-Myriotrema-Stegobolus clade (Melanotrema, Myriotrema, Ocellularia, Ocellularia clandestina group, Redingeria, Stegobolus), which will be treated in a forthcoming paper. The keys include all genera and species with chroodiscoid, lepad… Show more

“…Otherwise, this species fits well in the genus Chapsa sensu Rivas Plata et al (2010) and, in the subdivision of Chapsa by Parnmen et al (2012), as Astrochapsa. The species is probably best accommodated in the genus Astrochapsa in view of its similarity to A. meridensis.…”

“…The recent progress in the classification of tropical Graphidaceae, and in particular the publication of new identification keys (Lücking et al , 2009Rivas Plata et al 2010;Sipman et al 2012) allowed a new attempt to classify this material. As a result, many could be identified and it became clear that some others represent undescribed species, sometimes even difficult to accommodate in the current generic system.…”

“…Chemical constituents were identified by thin-layer chromatography using methods standardized for lichen products (Culberson & Kristinsson 1970, Culberson 1972, White & James 1985 with the solvent systems benzenedioxane-acetic acid (180:45:5), hexane-ethyl ether-formic acid (130:80:20), and tolueneethyl acetate-formic acid (139:83:8). Specimens were identified using literature (Nylander 1963, Divakar and Upreti 2005, Lücking et al 2009, Rivas Plata et al 2010) and by comparison with types and protologues. All examined specimens are deposited in Ajrekar Mycological Herbarium (AMH).…”

“…Acanthotrema is a small genus of four species characterized by a corticate thallus, chroodiscoid ascomata, and thin-walled ascospores of the Chroodiscus type (Rivas Plata et al 2010b). This genus, which is found on shaded tree trunks in the lowland rain forest, appears rather isolated within the family on a very long branch and its exact position remains unresolved.…”
