Abdominal obesity validates the association between elevated alanine aminotransferase and newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus

“…A cross-sectional study from northern Taiwan involving 1308 male workers aged 22 to 63 years 18 , observed that obesity and elevated ALT had a synergistic effect on insulin resistance (S: 2.1, 95% CI: 1.01–4.3). In another study from middle Taiwan including 5499 subjects, co-occurrence of obesity and elevated ALT was associated with higher odds for diabetes risk compared to subjects with only one of the two risk factors 32 .
