“…Identifying technology that allows students to practice EHR skills in a safe, simulated environment is essential for assuming the clinical and professional FNP role. Several articles describe the process and benefits of implementing an academic EHR in simulated experiences for graduate NP students 32–37 . A quality improvement project reported that 73% of 52 undergraduate and graduate nursing students had improved self-rated knowledge and confidence using an EHR after an academic EHR was incorporated into simulated learning activities in the curriculum 32 .…”

“…We included articles in our review that discussed NP students because most of the articles do not specifically differentiate FNPs in the sample. Among the 12 articles, two were quantitative research, 28,31 six described initiatives to implement academic EHRs in simulation, [32][33][34][35][36][37] and four described using EHRs in simulated interprofessional education (IPE) activities. [38][39][40][41] We also reviewed the reference lists for four published literature reviews on the topic of simulation and EHR training for health professionals, and none of the studies discussed in these reviews included NP students in the sample population.…”

“…The AEHR is an electronic records system specifically designed for educational use to support simulation learning. 30 Traditionally, AEHRs have been predominately used in professional education programs 26,[30][31][32] 9 educational efforts for practicing clinicians, such as continuing education courses. In fact, the education and training of practicing clinicians is essential when initiating profession-wide efforts, such as promoting wide-spread use of electronic records, as practicing clinicians make up the vast majority of the profession.…”
