“…The results of histology and immunohistochemistry indicate that the pure Gel/BaG nanocomposite scaffolds have good biocompatibility and osteoconductivity. These findings are consistent with Kargozar et al report that Gel/BaG nanocomposite scaffolds are well biocompatible and enhance new bone formation especially in the presence of MSCs. Periosteal osteoprogenitor cells and blood vessels grow into the defect site and new bone tissue regenerate and gradually infiltrate into the implant along with the resorption of the scaffold material.…”

“…This suggests the important role of ionic release on cellular behavior. 7 In addition, based on previous studies, it is believed that matrix mineralization is associated with the release of BG ionic products which are known to stimulate osteogenic differentiation hDPSC 7,8,12,26 ; however, this requires further evaluation to confirm this finding.…”

“…Osteogenic cell sheets incorporating gelatin had upregulated expression of osteogenic markers such as BMP-7, TGF-β, AP, osteocalcin, and osteopontin in osteogenically differentiated Ad-MSCs (Kim et al, 2017). Similarly, virally transfected BMP-7-overexpressing MSCs had rapid osteogenic differentiation (Xue et al, 2015), which induced bone regeneration in critical-size bone defects in rats (Kargozar et al, 2017). In the present study, we found that the addition of 0.5% gelatin strongly upregulated the expression of BMP-7, up to 5-to 8-fold higher than that of the MSCs without gelatin, as well as activating the wnt/β-catenin pathway.…”
