Acceleration of Sports Recovery with Glutamine Supplementation in Vertical Jump and Badminton Smash Velocity

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of glutamine supplementation on the ability of vertical jump and smash velocity after badminton's jumping smash. The research used a pre-post two-group design using 20 trained male athletes from the State University of Surabaya. The research sample was divided into two groups: the Placebo (PLA) group, which was given exercise + mineral water, and the glutamine (GLU) group, which was given training + glutamine supplement. The movement provided is to do a jum… Show more

“…This result showed that glutamine could accelerate the recovery of vertical jump, leg power, arm power, and smash velocity after jumping smash activity. This finding follows the research conducted by Wismanadi et al (2021) that the administration of glutamine supplementation of 0.4 grams/kg BW for three days can increase the vertical jump at 48 hours after the exercise. Glutamine can delay fatigue through various mechanisms.…”

“…Also, sports recovery acceleration and muscular fatigue reduction are essential for sports performance. In this regard, glutamine supplementation seems to increase muscle glycogen synthesis and reduce ammonia accumulation induced by exercise; it may attenuate markers of muscle damage, such as blood creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase levels; it can increase glutathione synthesis, being considered an indirect antioxidant [20,21].…”
