“…Another work in endodontics is described by Marras and colleagues [4] and looks to simulate access cavity with rotating instruments. Also on the access cavity procedure, Suebnukarn and colleagues [7] use two haptic devices in one simulator: one to manipulate the rotating tool and another for the odontological mirror, allowing for indirect visualisation of the tooth. This work features results to tests performed with odontology students, demonstrating an increase in the accuracy of their treatment after using the simulator.…”

“…With respect to the utilised devices, the Phantom haptic device, with 6 DOF for tracking and 3 DOF for force feedback, was found to be the prevailing choice to control rotating instruments for coronary opening [2] [3], to simulate both the usage of the odontological mirror [4] and periodontical procedures [5] [6] . In the specific area of endodontics, only work on file deformation and tooth pulp behaviour analysis was found.…”

“…Over the past decade, a variety of computer-based simulation systems have been developed as a way to address these limitations and dental schools have begun to incorporate simulators into their curricula. Among the various types of simulators, Virtual Reality (VR) simulators are becoming popular as they have the ability to record kinematic data on how a user performs each step of a task, with numerous dental VR systems developed academically and commercially [2,3,5,6,7,8,10,11,14,15,16,17]. However, the full promise of such systems has yet to be realized due to the lack of sufficient support for formative feedback.…”
