Accessibility Assessment of Prehospital Emergency Medical Services considering Supply-Demand Differences

Abstract: The reasonable accessibility assessment method is an important basis for the measurement of the level of prehospital emergency medical services. There is no general model for prehospital emergency care in traditional accessibility evaluation, and its supply-demand characteristics have also been ignored. Based on the three-step floating catchment area (3SFCA) model, the supply-demand three-step floating catchment area (SD3SFCA) model is proposed in this paper, which can express the difference between supply and… Show more

“…Therefore, there were two scenarios for getting complete EMS: (i) the nearest EMS station to the settlement and then to the DCF (hereinafter referred to as "Primary EMS"); (ii) the nearest EMS station equipped with monitoring ambulances to the settlement and then to the DCF (hereinafter referred to as "Advanced EMS"). In this paper, potential accessibility of EMS was focused on the above 2 travel time intervals, which were usually used to estimate potential EMS accessibility (31,41,42), and the above 2 complete EMSs could represent the quality of EMS to some extent. The purpose of this paper was to measure spatial accessibility of EMS by calculating the travel times of two ambulance services and two complete EMSs.…”

“…The 3SFCA model adopts segmented function weights, and the partition subjectivity is strong (Shen et al., 2021). Only facilities at the same level are considered, except for the capacity of facilities.…”
