Accessible Telemedicine Diagnostics with ELISA in a 3D Printed Pipette Tip

Abstract: We report herein a novel pipet-based "ELISA in a tip" as a new versatile diagnostic tool featuring better sensitivity, shorter incubation time, accessibility, and low sample and reagent volumes compared to traditional ELISA. Capture and analysis of data by a cell phone facilitates electronic delivery of results to health care providers. Pipette tips were designed and 3D printed as adapters to fit most commercial 50−200 μL pipettes. Capture antibodies (Ab 1 ) are immobilized on the inner walls of the pipet tip,… Show more

“…Generally, this strategy exploits microchannels to facilitate the manipulation of small amount of fluids for ELISA. For example, fluoropolymer microcapillary film, disposal sensor array, and 3D-printed pipette tip systems all use parallel microchannel arrays to perform multiplexed testing. Lab-on-a-disc, , “mChip,” , SlipChip, , and thermoelastic microvalve platforms detect different analytes in discrete parallel chambers connected by microchannels.…”

“…Proteins PF-4 and PSA were studied in this example, giving LODs of 0.5 pg/mL for both along with broad dynamic ranges [ 109 ]. We also developed an assay using CL for multiplexed ELISA in 3D printed pipette tips ( Figure 8 B) [ 29 ]. Both colorimetric and chemiluminescence detection methods were considered in the novel TIP ELISA approach.…”

“…Whereas many approaches are based on various synthesis steps, the automatic combination of many complex materials can easily be realized by e.g., additive manufacturing or threedimensional (3D) printing [1]. A large variety of 3D printed sensors have been developed and manufactured recently in the field of biotechnology e.g., for detection of glucose [2], selected medicament [3], trace elements [4], neurotransmitters [5], nucleic acids [6] and/or proteins [7].…”
