Accessing Diverse Data Comprehensively – CODM the COSYNA Data Portal

Abstract: Abstract. The coastal observation system COSYNA aims to describe the physical and biogeochemical state of a regional coastal system. The COSYNA data management is the link between observations, model results and data usage. The challenge for the COSYNA data management CODM is the integration of diverse data sources in terms of parameters, dimensionality and observation methods to gain a comprehensive view of the observations. This is achieved by describing the data using metadata in a generic way and by making… Show more

“…The model validation consisted in comparing the output of the TTM with observations of abundance of megalopa of H. sanguineus in the intertidal of Helgoland (Supplementary material Appendix 4) and through cross‐correlation analysis (Chatfield ). For the output of the TTM, temperature data consisted of daily records of seawater temperature for the Helgoland Roads, island of Helgoland, German Bight (source COSYNA data portal, Helmholtz–Zentrum Geesthacht, Wiltshire et al , Breitbach et al , Baschek et al ). The TTM uses a time series of the abundance of Zoea I larvae (in individuals per m 3 ) to establish the date at which virtual larvae are released in the model: the density of Zoea I in the water column at a given date is therefore used as proxy for the timing of larval release.…”

“…The measurements taken with COSYNA gliders is available on CODM. With the help of a Java applet, glider data can be visualized in 3 dimensions (Breitbach et al, 2016).…”

“…The COSYNA data management system (CODM) was established to make observational and model data publically available in near-real time (Breitbach et al, 2016). The time between observations and the availability of data on CODM is ranging from a few minutes for stationary measurements to about 24 h for data obtained from ships of opportunity and satellites.…”
