Acid Activation of Natural Zeolite with High Content of Iron Oxides in Creation of Selective Sorbents and Catalysts

Abstract: Abstract. The paper studies the influence of the nature of modifying acids (mineral, organic and heteropolyacids), and their combination on the composition and structure of the iron oxide rich clinoptilolit from Shankanay field in Kazakhstan for creation of selective catalysts in hydracarbon processing and sorbents for extracting ions of lanthanide and actinide elements. It is shown that sequential processing of natural zeolite in optimal conditions, by hydrochloric and sulfosalicylic acids lead to intensive d… Show more

“…This volcanic rock was used as a synthetic catalyst by means of physical and chemical activation. The treatment of heterogeneous solid catalysts by acidi cation and calcination to remove cations of various impurities from the catalyst surface (mainly alkaline compounds) was adopted [19,20]. Physical activation was carried out by pulverizing volcanic ash and sieved to a size of 100 mesh.…”

“…The H-OH vibration was observed in 1644 cm -1 . Characterization of Acid-activated and Calcined Zeolite Natural zeolite was activated by 3 M HCl to remove any organic and inorganic impurities from natural zeolite such as iron, sulfur or phosphorous, cleanse the pores, and leading to decationization-dealumination process of zeolite framework without destroying it (Al Muttaqii et al, 2019;Kadirbekov et al, 2017). The purpose of dealumination is to optimize selectivity, acidity control, and stability at high temperature of natural zeolite (Al Muttaqii et al, 2019).…”
