Acid Mine Drainage Treatment by Perlite Nanomineral, Batch and Continuous Systems

Abstract: In this paper the adsorption activity of perlite nanoparticles for removal of Cu2+, Fe2+ and Mn2+ ions at Iran Sarcheshmeh copper acid mine drainage was discussed. Thus, raw perlite that provided from internal resource was modified and prepared via particles size reduction to nano scale and characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transforms infrared and BET specific surface area analysis. The results of acid mine drainage s… Show more

“…The water and proppant injection efficiency is 6 to 20 m 3 /min, at the pumping pressure of 100 MPa [17,29]. The hydraulic fracturing job helps propagate the fracture at a distance of 200 to 300 m [22].…”

“…Such deposits have a natural system of fractures, though the matrix has a very low permeability 30 to 100 nD [13]. In coal-bed methane deposits the density of natural fractures is a significant parameter [21,22]. Natural gas production from such rock formations cannot be performed without additional operations, eg hydraulic fracturing.…”

“…Perlite is an amorphous volcanic glass with high water content, typically formed by the hydration of obsidian. It is an industrial mineral and a commercial product useful for its light weight after processing [11]. Tragacanth is a natural gum obtained from the stems and branches of Asiatic species of Astragalus [12,13].…”

“…It is reported (Rapacz-kmita et al 2016) that the influence of the organophilisation process on the properties of resulting organobentonite fillers and their capability to improve the mechanical properties of clay/polymer nanocomposites were investigated. It is reported (Shabani et al 2014) that the adsorption activity of perlite nanoparticles for removal of Cu 2+ , Fe 2+ and Mn 2+ ions at Iran Sarcheshmeh copper acid mine drainage was discussed. It is reported (Xiao and Wang 2011b) that bentonite has highly adsorptive capacities with large internal surface areas.…”
