Acoustic and Flow Aspects of Novel Synthetic Jet Actuator

Abstract: The acoustic and flow aspects of the novel synthetic jet actuator (SJA) with fins inside the cavity were experimentally investigated for three types of enclosure design and two models of loudspeaker. The aim of the study is to find the parameter which connects the flow and acoustic properties of the SJA and allows us to choose the optimal solution in those regards. The hot wire anemometry was used for the velocity measurements and the sound pressure level was measured with a sound level meter. The model of the… Show more

“…The latest references include, among others, the review articles [1,2], in which the authors present a detailed overview of SJ characteristics and parameters that can influence the enhancement of fluid flow and heat transfer. In addition, research on the acoustic and flow properties of an SJ actuator driven by a loudspeaker was recently conducted in [3,4].…”

“…The significant impact on the SPL has an element used to the SJ generation (piezoelectric, loudspeaker, piston). Smyk et al [35] compared woofer and mid-range driver with a similar specification. The noise generated by the actuator with the mid-range driver was about 10 -14 dB higher than in the case of the actuator with the woofer.…”

“…The diaphragm creates pairs of vortex rings near the exit from the orifice, which increases heat transfer. Synthetic jets are particularly useful in the LED cooling systems and their technology is constantly being developed [18][19][20][21].…”
