Actinomycosis of the Tongue Presenting As Solitary Nodular Swelling

Abstract: Actinomycosis is an uncommon suppurative chronic disease caused by Actinomyces spp., an anaerobic Gram-positive bacteria. It normally colonizes the human mouth and digestive and genital tracts. In the oral cavity, Actinomyces are particularly prevalent within gingival crevices, tonsillar crypts, periodontal pockets, and dental plaques, as well as on carious teeth; however, they are rarely pathogenic.
