Active metabolic weight estimation using bioimpedance, indirect calorimetry and the clino-ortho maneuver

Abstract: The resting energy expenditure (REE) and substrate utilization are computed by indirect calorimetry technique (ICT). The REE represents 80-85% of the total energy expenditure (TEE) but only accounts for the 7% of the actual body weight (ABW). The TEE is produced by the organs plus muscles, whereas the REE accounts only for the main organs. An important problem comes up when the REE is computed throughout the fat free mass (FFM) computation or anthropometric measurements because they do not explain the tremendo… Show more

“…The objective of this work was to develop a pilot study where young healthy volunteer population was submitted to the physiological clino-orthostatic maneuver (COM) with the idea to generate steady/clinostatic and non-steady/orthostatic stages as a manner of an instrumental bench test (Gonzalez et al 2013 ; Cadena et al 2010 ). A hybrid calorimeter with the MC and the BbB techniques was applied to compare inter-individual variability changes during the COM stages.…”

“…Concluyeron que esto es debido a la actividad metabólica de la MLG y que es develada por la maniobra acostado-parado [61]. La OS al parecer, no solo es un problema de disminución de la MLG sino también de la actividad metabólica de la misma, por lo que es importante medir si existe un decremento o incremento de la actividad metabólica de la MLG [62] [63].…”
