Activity of two Exometabolites produced by Escherichia coli on the Synthesis of Pyocyanin

Abstract: The secretion of metabolites with antimicrobial activity is one of the strategies employed by bacteria to respond to negative stimuli promoted during interspecies competition. In a long -term stationary phase. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli can synthesize diffusible exometabolites whose action is to mutually inhibit the exposed cells, guaranteeing the balance of both populations in a certain site. The P. aeruginosa may have an advantage in that it produces pyocyanin. Howeve r, the excretion of ind… Show more

“…The designed modified semisynthetic (MS) media for pyocyanin yield enhancement led to increasing pyocyanin yield up to 6 μg/ml [ 31 ]. The study established by [ 32 ] showed a pyocyanin reduction by indole addition and no change was detected in the pyocyanin yield with acetate addition.…”

“…Pyocyanin is a secondary metabolite involved in natural ecological phenomena of antibiosis and amensalism of P. aeruginosa against its competitors (Jameel et al, 2017;Ghoul & Mitri, 2016). Depending on the concentration of pyocyanin, as well as the susceptibility of the organism exposed to the substance, a biocidal or biostatic effect may result (Arruda et al, 2020). Due to the antimicrobial properties and wide spectrum of action of pyocyanin (Vasconcelos et al, 2010), the molecule is a promising naturally active compound with potential and physicochemical characteristics that may be incorporated into nanosystems for the formulation of coatings.…”
