Acute and subchronic toxicity of the antitumor agent rhodium (II) citrate in Balb/c mice after intraperitoneal administration

Abstract: This study aimed to investigate potential acute and subchronic toxicity of rhodium (II) citrate in female Balb/c mice after intraperitoneal injections. In the acute test, independent groups received five doses; the highest dose (107.5 mg/kg) was equivalent to 33 times that used in our previous reports. The other doses were chosen as proportions of the highest, being 80.7 (75%), 53.8 (50%), 26.9 (25%) or 13.8 mg/kg (12.5%). Animals were monitored over 38 days and no severe signs of toxicity were observed, accor… Show more

“…2A shows a micrograph of sample Mag-RhCit obtained by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). It was observed that NPs are spherical and have polydispersity of a size expected for syntheses by co-precipitation route and as also observed by other authors [7,[21][22][23][24]28]…”

“…Previous studies with maghemite NPs and maghemite NPs functionalized with rhodium (II) citrate (Magh-RhCit) showed progress and great potential for chemotherapeutic treatment [7,[20][21][22][23][24]. However, as yet there are no studies related to the identification of the protein corona of this NP nor about its interaction in cells of the immune system.…”

“…The use of drugs in the treatment of thyroid cancer should be analyzed by efficiency in the healing process and side effects. In general, adverse effects related to drug toxicity depend on parameters, such as dose, routine, and period of medication administration (Carneiro et al 2015). In Traino and Di Martino (2006), the authors discuss from some mathematical models the quantities of 131 I for the ablation of thyroid remnants postsurgery or metastasis.…”
