Acute Effects of ChunDoSunBup Qi-training on Blood Concentrations of TSH, Calcitonin, PTH and Thyroid Hormones in Elderly Subjects

Abstract: The present study investigated how the systemic treatment of a programmed exercise, ChunDoSunBup (CDSB) Qi-training, affects the secretion of thyroid and parathyroid hormones in elderly subjects (10 male and 5 female). Plasma concentrations of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), parathyroid hormone (PTH), ionized calcium, and calcitonin were determined. CDSB Qi-training induces a slight increase in TSH. Both T4 and T3 were increased at the mid-time of CDSB Qi-training (p <… Show more

“…Qi-therapy also reduced the level of pain and blood pressure, and increased in vitro NK cell function (Lee et al, 2001a-c, and1998b). From the results of the present study, we can hypothesize that Qi therapy may decrease SNS activity and thus affect immune cells.…”

“…It is known that physical exercise triggers a series of physiological responces involving stimulating the release of growth hormone which has direct or indirect anabolic effect or mediated by insulin-like growth factor [19][20][21][22]. Additionally, there are some studies showing an increased plazma levels of thyroid hormones during physical activity [23].…”
