Acute effects of two different stretching techniques on isokinetic strength and power

Abstract: a b s t r a c tObjectives: To examine and compare the acute effects of short duration static and dynamic lower-limb stretching routines on the knee flexor and extensor peak torque and mean power during maximal concentric and eccentric muscle actions. Method: Forty-nine active adults completed the following intervention protocols on separate days: non-stretching, static stretching and dynamic stretching. After the stretching or control intervention, concentric and eccentric isokinetic peak torque and mean power… Show more

“…For measuring isokinetic power, ankle plantar flexion and dorsiflexion and knee extension and flexion in both legs were measured separately (Isoforce, Sungdo MC, Korea). Isokinetic equipment is considered the most accurate equipment for measuring muscle strength in athletes [1]. Particularly, measuring isokinetic power provides more accurate data and is safer than measuring isometric or isotonic muscle strength; thus, it is used often for conducting exercise programs with muscle function and muscle fatigue assessments [24].…”

“…Particularly, measuring isokinetic power provides more accurate data and is safer than measuring isometric or isotonic muscle strength; thus, it is used often for conducting exercise programs with muscle function and muscle fatigue assessments [24]. Prior to the measurements, calibration was performed on all participants, while sufficient time was provided for practice, and explanations were provided to prevent adverse reactions [1]. To measure muscle strength purely from the knees and ankles, the other body parts were fixated with a belt.…”
