“…Elevated level of FSH in EGEE-treated rats indicates that the normal restricting feedback from the gonad is absent, leading to an unrestricted pituitary FSH production, which is associated with subfertility and/or infertil-ity. Our data are in agreement with previous studies on insecticide methomyl (Mahgoub & El-Medany, 2001), ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, a member of glycol ethers family (Reader et al, 1991) and bisphenol A (Atanassova et al, 2000). The apparent reduction in EGEEmediated increase in FSH by kolaviron suggests its ability to preserve the intricate regulation between the testis and pituitary gland.…”

“…Thus an infertile man with a high LDH-C4/sperm ratio would be suspected of having abnormally high rates of germ-cell degeneration during spermatogenesis. Studies in rats in which germ-cell degeneration was induced by administration of testicular toxicants has also shown that this leads to increased levels of LDH-C4 in peripheral blood for up to 14 days (Reader et al, 1991). Whilst this is an encouraging finding it is presumed that abnormally high levels of LDH-C4 are only detectable in semen or blood when active germ-cell degeneration is occurring (see also Eliasson & Virji, 1985).…”

“…The ABP produced by SCs has also been proposed as a biomarker of the normal occurrence of spermatogenesis (Rehnberg et al, 1989). However, plasma concentration of ABP is not always directly associated with the concentrations detected in the testis and interstitial fluid (Reader et al, 1991;Rehnberg et al, 1989). Finally, the metabolic cooperation established between SC-germ cells has also been shown to serve as an indicator for the success of spermatogenesis.…”
