Adaptation and Testing of the Factorial Structure of the Physical Education Grit Scale for Use in Secondary Education in Spain

Abstract: The challenges faced by students during Physical Education classes embrace both physical and academic aspects. Therefore, each individual possesses a series of internal psychological mechanisms, such as Grit, which allow them to adapt and overcome the vicissitudes. However, there are no scales that assess Grit in Span. Thus, the aim of the present study is to test the factor structure of the Physical Education Grit Scale in Span of Physical Education classes. For this purpose, 857 secondary school students too… Show more

“…The issues of students' adaptation to physical education are touched upon in the article by the authors J. González-Bernal, S. Gonzalez-Bernal, C. Salavera, J.M. Aguilar-Parra, M.J. González-Santos [2]. The authors propose a system of indicators for evaluating and analyzing the effectiveness of physical education in educational institutions, tested in the course of the study.…”

“…Two subscales and four-dimensional third-order factor models, namely Physical Grit (PHI and PHE) and Academic Grit (ACI and ACE), are obtained by calculating the optimal fit index with good construct validity. González-Bernal et al (2022) verified it in Spanish middle school physical education teaching. Cronbach’s α of four dimensions is 0.81, 0.83, 0.78, and 0.82, which has good construct validity.…”

“…As a result, the grit concept and term become too common and complicate the process of developing grit instruments in special clusters. There are several studies on the measurement of grit through the development of instruments via adaptation (Chisholm-Burns et al, 2019;Duckworth & Quinn, 2009;González-Bernal et al, 2022;Schmidt et al, 2019) or psychometric testing studies (Postigo et al, 2023).…”
