Adapting the Micro-Gas Turbine Operation to Variable Thermal and Electrical Requirements

Abstract: This paper examines the possibilities for a micro-gas turbine operation under a wide range of thermal and mechanical load requirements. The authors focus the attention on a partially recuperated thermal cycle based on a by-pass option towards the heat recovery boiler, in order to adapt the gas turbine operation to increasing needs of thermal output. In addition, a variable speed operation is considered as a more reliable method for decreasing the mechanical output without producing an excess in efficiency deca… Show more

“…It is important to highlight that this kind of approach can be easily adapted to other kinds of plants, only by changing the parameters utilized and by correctly defining the events considered. In this specific case, for the analysis of the gas turbine the data plate of the MTG Ansaldo 100 kW was taken as a reference, as well as in [3][4][5][6][7]. This type of system can reach values comparable to those of large size, from an efficiency point of view.…”

“…At the same time there exist variable-area nozzles which can be adjusted to decrease the flux of compressor. The adjustment methods used in heavy gas turbine do not all fit to the micro-gas turbine because the operations of micro-gas turbine are different from heavy gas turbine [18]. Some possible adjustment and modification methods were mentioned in this chapter and the feasibility was discussed.…”

“…The mass flow rate of inlet air is reduced by varying the the inlet guide vane position to matain the temperature of the flue gas, thereby increasing the effeciency of the combined cycle [4,5]. Adjusting the rotational speed operting strategy is widely used in micro gas turbine especially for the recuperated gas turbine [6]. Kim el al.…”
