Adapting to peripherality: a study of small rural manufacturing firms in northern England

Abstract: P utteridge Bury, H itchin R oad, L uton, U K U sing em pirical data draw n from tw o studies of manufact uring SM Es in 'rem ote' rural areas in northern E ngland, the paper examines som e of the w ays in w hich rms hav e adapted to the characteristics of their local external environm ent over a 16-y ear period.
