Adaptive stochastic resonance system in terahertz radar signal detection

Abstract: Terahertz radar research has attracted widely attention of researchers due to its advantages such as short wave length, wide bandwidth, no blind spot, low power, and low intercept rate. It is generally considered that the echo signal of terahertz radar system is a signal with noise. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the noise in the process of the frequency spectrum analysis of different-frequency signals. The fast Fourier transform (FFT) and the filtering method are commonly used in radar signal processing… Show more

“…When the signal, noise, and SR system characteristic are matched, noise plays a positive role in signal detection through the SR system, breaking the traditional view that noise is always harmful in signal detection. Benzi et al [13] put forward the SR concept in their research on the changes of the Earth's glacial period first, and then, the phenomenon was verified in the fields of physics, biology, and electronics [14][15][16][17][18]. So the SR is used to the signal detection and reception when the signal strength is lower than the decision threshold [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26].…”

“…He et al took the delayed feedback system as a model and successfully detected the target frequency and amplitude of weak signals by adjusting the model parameters, signal amplitude, and noise intensity to induce stochastic resonance [12]. Wang et al proposed a terahertz radar signal detection method based on the adaptive stochastic resonance theory and subsampled the noise-containing difference frequency signal as well as completed the ranging calculation [13]. Cui et al studied the stochastic resonance characteristics of the bistable circuit and conducted an experimental simulation of its circuit in the Multisim simulation environment.…”

“…The core idea of the traditional weak signal linear detection method is to improve the SNR by suppressing noise, but when noise suppression is carried out, the signal to be detected is also suppressed or lost, which is not conducive to the detection of the weak signal. [3][4][5][6][7] Stochastic resonance (SR), as a signal processing method developed in recent years, describes a kind of nonlinear physical phenomenon: under specific conditions, the nonlinear system, weak signal, and noise produce synergy; the noise energy is transferred to the signal via a nonlinear system, so as to enlarge the useful signal and suppress the noise. [8][9][10] McNamara et al [11] studied the bistable system model and simplified the system to a two-state model under adiabatic approximation conditions.…”
