“…Unlike other documented respiratory viral infections had low WBC and CRP levels, human adenovirus infection typically results in high WBC and CRP levels [ 21 , 22 ], and the WBC and CRP levels had been compared between species B, C, and E in earlier studies [ 23 25 ]. In addition, the PCT value associated with changes in children with respiratory HAdV infection was observed in another study [ 26 ]. However, the associations between the WBC, CRP, and PCT values and adenovirus types have not been well understood; the differences in the WBC, CRP, and PCT levels to the various types and disease severity of respiratory HAdV infections have also not been fully explored.…”

“…The cut-off value of serum PCT used to rule out invasive bacterial infections in infants aged 7-91 days admitted for fever in a previous study is 0.3 ng/mL [ 5 ]. For adenovirus infections, the levels of serum PCT level range from 0.04-5.67 ng/mL (median 1.14 ng/mL) [ 7 ]. The level of serum PCT that distinguishes between invasive bacterial infections and adenovirus infections is vague; however, in our patient, PCT was markedly elevated; therefore, an invasive bacterial infection was more probable than adenovirus gastroenteritis or a urinary tract infection.…”

“…Por otro lado, en el estudio desarrollado por Kunze en 2016, el 42% de la población de estudio presentó niveles de PCT superiores a 0,5 ng/mL con una media de 0.75 ng/mL 5 . Laveglia et al 8 , reportaron un 70% de la población con niveles de PCT superiores a 0,5 ng/mL con una media de 1,14 ng/mL, valores que concuerdan con los resultados de este estudio donde la media de PCT fue 0,65±0,8 ng/mL.…”
