Adjuvant Effect of Chicken Interferon-.GAMMA. for Inactivated Salmonella Enteritidis Antigen

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The adjuvant effect of chicken interferon-γ (ChIFN-γ) was examined for protecting chickens against intestinal colonization of Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) following oral exposure. Ten 7-week-old chickens per group were immunized with inactivated SE twice with or without co-administration of ChIFN-γ intramuscularly, and all chickens were challenged with SE. Sera collected from immunized groups with or without ChIFN-γ, and from unimmunized group were measured for SE antibody by agglutination test. The l… Show more

“…It is widely accepted that neutralizing antibodies could possibly represent a valuable parameter by which to evaluate the efficacy of a vaccine against CAV (Sawant et al, 2015;Trinh et al, 2015b). Induction of cellular immune responses of IFN-␥ has been reported for a variety of antigens in previous studies (Haq et al, 2011;Takehara et al, 2003;van Slooten et al, 2000). Likewise, cell-mediated immunity, particularly the level of virusspecific IFN-␥, has been another potential correlate of protective immunity (Markowski-Grimsrud and Schat, 2003;Moeini et al, 2011;Sawant et al, 2015).…”

“…The co-administration of ChIFN-γ expressed using a baculovirus system with the inactivated Salmonella enteritidis antigen enhanced the level of protection against Salmonella enteritidis challenge without increasing the antibody production [39]. The co-administration of the recombinant ChIFN-γ with sheep red blood cell antigens resulted in stronger antibody responses and allowed a lower dose of the antigen to be used more effectively than in the chickens that received the antigen alone [25].…”

“…Cytokines are natural modulators of immune response and are being used as vaccine adjuvant to enhance host immune responses induced by DNA vaccines in coccidiosis (Kim et al 1999;Song et al 2000;Xu et al 2006). Takehara et al (2003) stated that interferon gamma (chIFN-γ) is a strong adjuvant candidate for both the general enhancement of the immune response induced by vaccine antigen and modulation of immune response generated. It induces a microbicidal state, which is involved in the resolution of the infection by intracellular parasites, thus enhancing vaccine efficacy.…”
