Advanced removal of Reactive Yellow 84 azo dye using functionalised amorphous calcium carbonates as adsorbent

Abstract: Two environmentally friendly organics (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, EDTA and its easier biodegradabe isomer, ethylenediamine-N, N′-disuccinic acid, EDDS) were used to dope calcium carbonate (CC) nanoparticles intending to increase their adsorptive properties and evaluate adsorption performance (uptake capacity and removal efficiency) for the persistent Reactive Yellow 84 azo dye. Easily synthesized nanomaterials were fully characterized (morphology and size, mineralogy, organic content, surface area, pore … Show more

“…The expansion of industries and the release of industrial effluents into the environment have led to the risk of pollution around factories, surface water, and groundwaters. Various industries such as plastics, textiles, food, and cosmetics discharge effluents containing different pollutants such as organic materials and dyes into the environment 1 3 . The most critical problem in treating dye-contained effluents is the removal of unstable dyes.…”

“…[24,25] Non-toxic, high stability and selectivity, easily accessible, and reusable are the properties of an economically and environmentally feasible adsorbent. [26] Several adsorbents such as polyacrylic acid hydrogel, [27] inorganic doping of kaolin clay, [28] ZnMn 2 O 4 nanoparticles, [29] Au@Pd@Ru nanoparticle, [30] and so on have been reported for the removal of different dyes.…”

“…Among them, adsorption has been widely accepted for the elimination of pollutants from aqueous media due to its simple process, inexpensive, and efficient nature [24,25] . Non‐toxic, high stability and selectivity, easily accessible, and reusable are the properties of an economically and environmentally feasible adsorbent [26] …”
