Advances of Nanotechnologies in Oil and Gas Industries

Abstract: Many functional materials have been used in oil and gas industries. Special materials were needed for to withstand the high temperature and pressure harsh environment of oil and gas reservoir. Nanotechnologies have the potential to introduce revolutionary changes of materials used in the areas of the oil and gas industries. This paper gives an overview of the nanotechnology application for enhanced oil recovery, fracturing fluids, flow assurance, drilling, completion and specialty composite in the oil and gas … Show more

“…The application of nanoparticles has proven to be beneficial in the upstream oil and gas industry (Yang et al 2015). Several applications like water flood displacement (Yuan and Moghanloo 2018;Bahraminejad et al 2019;Najimi et al 2019), fines fixation (Huang et al 2010b;Assef et al 2014;Yuan 2017;Zheng et al 2018), and enhanced oil recovery (Yousefvand and Jafari 2015;Bera and Belhaj 2016;Yuan and Wood 2018;Asl et al 2020) have been studied and experimented upon in this capacity.…”

“…Besides, cement is pumped into the wells to provide structural support for the steel casings and to secure the casings against corrosive fluids [1]. After setting, the cement sheath should possess mechanical properties sufficient to withstand the loads and provide structural sustenance and zonal isolation [2,3].…”
