Adversity Quotient Promotes Teachers’ Professional Competence More Strongly Than Emotional Intelligence: Evidence from Indonesia

Abstract: Teachers’ professional competence has become a popular issue since the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, this study investigates teachers’ professional competence, in terms of emotional intelligence (EI), adversity quotient (AQ), and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), when teachers need to deal with abnormal situations, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, this study also seeks to explore the relationship of EI and AQ with teachers’ professional competence mediated by OCB. The research data were collec… Show more

“…Table 3 also shows that the standard deviation value of each dimension used to measure the research variables is smaller than the mean value of the dimensions. This shows that the research data is good [ 85 ]. Correlation analysis of all measurement dimensions of research variables also shows a significant relationship between measurement dimensions at p < 0.01 and p < 0.05, with a correlation value < 0.9; CMV is not a problem in this study.…”

“…The method used to assess CMV refers to Refs. [ [84] , [85] , [86] , [87] ] by looking at the method of evaluating the impact of CMV through latent variable correlation, where CMV is seen if there is a considerable correlation between the primary constructs (r > 0.9), and CMV will not be a problem in any study if the correlation between constructs is < 0.9. The results of the descriptive analysis of four (4) research variables and the correlation matrix based on the dimensions of each variable are presented in Table 3 .…”

“…It is necessary to conduct a SWOT analysis in an independent curriculum (Guo, 2021) to know the challenges and obstacles. Next, training should be given to the teachers (Aliyyah et al, 2020;Chien, 2020b) to improve pedagogic competence (Asari, Fauziyah, & Uchtiawati, 2018;Haron, Zalli, Othman, & Awang, 2021;Syahrial et al, 2019) and professional competence (Chien, 2020a;Widodo, Gustari, & Chandrawaty, 2022;Zakirova, 2016) (Ngema & Lekhetho, 2019;Tanang & Abu, 2014;Thaine, 2010).…”

“…The results of this study are in line with research conducted by Zbierowski, (2020); Basu et al, (2017) which state that the altruism indicator is higher than other indicators of teacher OCB. Research conducted by Widodo et al, (2022); Shrestha & Subedi, (2020); Shrestha & Dangol, (2020) also stated that the lowest OCB indicator was the Conscientiousness indicator.…”
