Aero-Thermal Performance of a Two-Dimensional Highly Loaded Transonic Turbine Nozzle Guide Vane: A Test Case for Inviscid and Viscous Flow Computations

Abstract: This contribution deals with an experimental aero-thermal investigation around a highly loaded transonic turbine nozzle guide vane mounted in a linear cascade arrangement. The measurements were performed in the von Karman Institute short duration Isentropic Light Piston Compression Tube facility allowing a correct simulation of Mach and Reynolds numbers as well as of the gas to wall temperature ratio compared to the values currently observed in modern aero engines. The experimental program consisted of flow pe… Show more

“…In Fig. 6, the exit flow angles of both models are compared with the experimental data of Arts et al [6] tested at Von Karman Institute. The distribution of the eddy viscosity ratio,  t /  L , along the blade pitch at various x/c x values is presented in Fig.…”

“…This parameter has been measured in previous studies for Macor machineable glass ceramic, with values ranging from 1765 (Miller, 1981) to 2090 (Arts and Derouvroit, 1992). For the purposes of the current work, the properties of the particular batch of ceramic were measured and a value of 1950 ± 4% employed in all the data analysis.…”

“…This work is based on an experimental study carried out in the isentropic-light-piston-compression-tube facility CT-2 at Von Karman Institute [36] which is basically made of three main parts: a 5-meter long and 1-meter diameter cylinder, a test section and a downstreamdump tank. The cylinder contains a lightweight piston driven by air from a high pressure reservoir.…”
