Aesthetic Interaction Consistency: Exploring the Foundation for Static and Dynamic Aesthetics

Abstract: Aesthetics is a powerful means for creating consistency across a product range. During the design process consistency is subject to risk. The existing tools do not integrate static as well as dynamic approaches. This paper explores how to integrate and combine both. The framework considers that, firstly, the users perceive the product thought all their senses (product presentation). Based on the perceptions, users will interact through gestures or movements (user action). These action will create a product rea… Show more

“…The arrival of autonomy and a shift in consumption toward a sharing economy are expected to change the models of vehicle purchasing and ownership (Gkouskos et al, 2014). It is expected that vehicle ownership in its current form will decline and, as consumers pay for service, an increasing premium will be placed on the experience within a vehicle and less so on the experience of owning and operating it (Eckoldt et al, 2013;Gonzalez et al, 2018). It follows that designers in the automotive industry need to acknowledge these changes and increasingly shift consideration of UX alongside the more traditional considerations of form, materiality, and manufacturing of vehicles.…”

“…The reduced focus on traditional vehicle ownership and the feasibility of sharing models of ownership has lead designers at Ford to shift their focus to consider the design of transport experiences, rather than simply vehicle's appearance and technical performance. As such user experience (UX) is of increasing value to automotive companies as a means to differentiate products and reinforce brand values (Gonzalez et al, 2018;Eckoldt et al, 2013).…”
