Luminance information is processed using two channels namely the ON and OFF visual channels. 1 ON pathway dysfunction is typically associated with poor nocturnal vision, 2 which manifests in retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, 3 congenital stationary night blindness (CSNB) 4 and melanomaassociated retinopathy. 4 The exact mechanism for the association between the ON pathway defect and nocturnal vision dysfunction is unclear. However, it could be related to the presence of only one morphological type of rod bipolar cell being present in the mammalian retina-the ON type. [5][6][7]
