AgriEnt: A Knowledge-Based Web Platform for Managing Insect Pests of Field Crops

Abstract: In the agricultural context, there is a great diversity of insects and diseases that affect crops. Moreover, the amount of data available on data sources such as the Web regarding these topics increase every day. This fact can represent a problem when farmers want to make decisions based on this large and dynamic amount of information. This work presents AgriEnt, a knowledge-based Web platform focused on supporting farmers in the decision-making process concerning crop insect pest diagnosis and management. Agr… Show more

“…Furthermore, developing a reliable, easy-to-use, and cost-effective RPW detection device is an effective solution for reducing the gap in early detection [44]. In this regard, the literature provides some successful examples of early detection techniques in terms of efficiency, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness, such as biological and physiological indicators, thermal imaging, chemical signatures, acoustics, laser-induced remote sensing, breakdown spectroscopy, and near-infrared spectroscopy [9,[44][45][46][47][48][49]. Additionally, the FAO established a global RPW management platform that includes a mobile app tool for collecting and transmitting data on palm inspection [16].…”

“…Relationships between the concepts (Microsoft ® Excel file attributed titles) can be represented as a formal structure or ontology [ 99 ]. Ontology can be referred to ‘as a specification of a representational vocabulary for a shared domain of discourse’ [ 100 ] or to ‘a formal and explicit specification of a shared conceptualization’ [ 101 ]. The adopted knowledge representation is based on a ternary relationship between the plant used for protection (biopesticide), the target organism (pest, disease or, in the current construction, beneficial organism) and the protected system (pre or postharvest crop) ( Figure S1 ).…”

“…Chen et al [14] proposed an agricultural knowledge graph to automatically integrate massive agricultural data from the Internet. Lagos-Ortiz et al [15] constructed a knowledge-based platform to help crop insect pest diagnosis and management. Qiao et al [16] proposed an agricultural entity relationship joint extraction model for the construction of knowledge graphs.…”
