“…Since engine lifetimes are ∼20 years, methods to estimate EI(BC) will be required for several decades for the purposes of environmental impact studies. A preliminary analysis by Stettler et al (2011) showed that estimates of EI(BC) derived using the SN and FOA3 significantly underestimate EI(BC) when compared with engine emission measurements, with 40% of data points being underestimated by an order of magnitude or more.
