Aliphatic polyester biodegradation by coral-associated bacteria from Karimunjawa Marine National Park, Java Sea

Abstract: Plastic waste is one of the environmental pollutants that is difficult to degrade. The spread of plastic waste is almost everywhere even in the ocean, especially in coral reef ecosystem. Non-degradable plastic like polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene begins to be partially replaced with biodegradable plastic materials (i.e polycaprolactone) as a strategy to reduce non-degradable polymer materials. Hence, this study aims is to find the potential of polycaprolactone biodegradation from coral associated-… Show more

“…Even the research of Pertiwi et al (2015), states that dead corals can become habitats for decapods. Coral animals as the main constituents of coral reefs have benefits that are now widely studied, including in the pharmaceutical world, which has the potential to be an antibacterial source (Radjasa 2004;Sabdono and Radjasa 2006;Radjasa et al 2007;Radjasa et al 2008;Radjasa et al 2013;Sabdono et al 2015;Cristianawati et al 2016;Trianto et al 2017), bioactive (Radjasa 2004), antifungal (Riyanti et al 2016), polyester biodegradation (Widyananto et al 2022), and biodegradation of herbicide compounds (Radjasa and Sabdono 2005).…”
