All‐Dielectric Huygens’ Meta‐Waveguides for Resonant Integrated Photonics

Abstract: The growing maturity of nanofabrication technology has recently enabled the deployment of high-quality subwavelength nanostructures on photonic chips. Combining existing photonic waveguide technology with the paradigms adapted from metamaterials opens new avenues towards unprecedented control of guided light waves. However, developing new functionalities while preserving efficiencies and offering compatibility with current technology remains a major challenge in on-chip nanophotonics. Here, a novel silicon nan… Show more

“…In this section, we apply the developed numerical method for modeling second harmonic generation in 1D ordered arrays of AlGaAs nanodisks. Owing to periodic structure, one-dimensional arrays of dielectric resonators demonstrate linear and nonlinear , waveguide properties provided by the propagating Bloch waves below the light line. The modes are characterized by the quasi-wavevector q which spans from – π/ a to π/ a in the first Brillouin zone and the modes close to the edge of the band q ≈ π/ a are often referred to as band-edge modes.…”

“…Rather small thickness of the semiconductor layers in commercially available wafers along with restrictions of the industrial fabrication protocols and Mie resonance condition imply the minimal size of the period a ≳ 0.3λ. 32,35,36 ■ RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Chain of Dielectric Cylinders: Numerical Simulations. The proposed mechanism described within the framework of the toy dipole model can be realized in the chain of high-index dielectric resonators with a suitable choice of parameters.…”
