“…It is known that oestrogen, originating from the placenta, is present in new-born mammals. The protracted alteration in histidine decarboxylase activity during the first weeks after birth has a related counterpart in the following observation: a high histamine formation by mouse kidney persisted for weeks after discontinuing oestrogen treatment (Henningsson & Rosengren, 1972). The marked decrease in histidine decarboxylase activity of the kidney after ovariectomy strengthens the view that the normally high enzyme level is maintained by gonadal activity.…”

“…In female mice it was noted that oestrogen and testosterone administration greatly altered the rate of formation of histamine and putrescine and these changes were reflected in the urinary excretion of the diamines (Henningsson & Rosengren, 1972; Grahn, Henningsson, Kahlson & Rosengren, 1973). In these experiments it was shown that oestrogen injections increased histamine formation in the kidney.…”

“…The use of an improved method for measuring putrescine in this study confirms this assumption, as is evident from Figure 1. The peak levels excreted in 24 h are roughly ten times higher than those found earlier by Henningsson & Rosengren (1972).…”

“…Identification of the yellow DNB (2,4-dinitrobenzene)-product in mouse urine As mentioned above, urine of testosterone-treated mice contained an unidentified compound which gave a yellow product after reaction with DNFB (Henningsson & Rosengren, 1972). As a first step towards identifying the unknown substance, mouse urine was purified by ion-exchange chromatography on a Dowex 50 W-X4 column (Kahlson, Rosengren & Thunberg, 1963).…”
