Alternations in the liver enzymatic activity of Common carp, Cyprinus carpio in response to parasites, Dactylogyrus spp. and Gyrodactylus spp.

Abstract: The present study was carried out to investigate the effects of parasites, monogenea, Dactylogyrus spp. and Gyrodactylus spp. on some enzymatic and biochemical components of liver in healthy and infected common carp, Cyprinus carpio. For this purpose, 10 healthy and 10 infected fish were collected from farm. The blood samples were taken and after separation of serum, the values of Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) enzymes activities as well as Creatinine and Urea were measured. B… Show more

“…These results might be attributed to experimental infection where this result has been confirmed by histopathological lesions in the liver and kidney. These results are in harmony with the result of Fadl, Barakat, and Elgohary (), Fadl et al () and El‐Habashi et al () in Nile tilapia infected with Aeromonas hydrophila and Rastiannasab, Afsharmanesh, Rahimi, and Sharifian () in common carp with parasitic infection.…”

“…It catalyzes the transfer of an amino group from L-alanine to  -Ketoglutarate, the products of this reversible transamination reaction being pyriuvate and Lglutamate. Elevated levels of ALT often suggest the existence of other medical problems such as viral hepatitis, diabetes, liver damage, bile duct problems, congestive heart failure, infectious mononucleosis or myopathy [22], and the results of this work with elevated level of ALT in the fish infected with the pathogens suggests that there is organ damage in the infected fish.…”

“…and Gyrodactylus spp.) caused liver dysfunctions and elevations in AST and ALT levels in Common carp, Cyprinus carpio (Rastiannasab et al, 2016). Also, Younis (1999) reported same elevated levels of both AST and ALT in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus.…”
