Ameliorative effect of tephrosia purpurea in arsenic-induced nephrotoxicity in rats

Abstract: Objectives:The present investigation was conducted to evaluate the nephroprotective activity of Tephrosia purpurea (TPE) against arsenic-induced toxicity.Materials and Methods:Twenty four number of wistar rats were equally divided into three groups. Sodium arsenite (10 mg/kg) was orally given to group I for 28 days, additionally group II was orally treated with TPE (500 mg/kg), while the control group was kept untreated with neither arsenic nor TPE. Serum biomarker levels, oxidative stress indices and arsenic … Show more

“…These results show compatibility with the literature. It has been reported also in the previous studies that a reduction also occurred in levels of compounds with antioxidant characteristics such as selenium 37 and glutathione 38,39 as well as decreased antioxidant enzyme activities in the rat tissues exposed to arsenic. [39][40][41] Contrarily, it has been encountered in the arsenic + TQ group that tissue MDA level decreased, while a significant elevation was encountered in the antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD and CAT) when compared with the arsenic group.…”

“…New nephrons in the kidney cortex margin, their maturity gained in a few days after birth. At this time, the amount of Ar that passes through breast milk is relatively insignificant ( 43 ). Zinc administration significantly effected on the progression of renal histopathological changes, which represents the antioxidant potential of Zinc.…”

“…Numerous studies have investigated the protective effects of several agents on arsenic-induced damage. Oral treatment with tephrosia purpurea extract protected rats from arsenic-induced nephrotoxicity [ 31 ]. In addition, Juglans nigra showed hepatoprotective and anticlastogenic effects induced by arsenite [ 32 ].…”
